Manchurian wild rice was first cultivated in ancient China for its grain to be consumed as a food but today, it is more commonly the stem of the plant that is consumed. DermaNiA^® uses only Manchurian wild rice grown in Korea and Japan. Through a proprietary extraction process using ethanol, water, and an enzymatic treatment, BTC Corporation, a partner of Gencor™ standardized the extract to tricin. While it proved difficult to obtain the active components of the leaves through conventional extraction methods alone, BTC’s bioconversion technology (enzymatic treatment) allows for successful standardization. Production occurs in BTC’s state-of-the-art facility in Korea which employs various processes to preserve the desired qualities of the raw materials.
